University College Birmingham (UCB) is a university located in the vibrant city of Birmingham, England. It gained full university status in 2012, alongside Newman University. Despite not being a member of Universities UK, UCB has received recognition, being awarded 'University of the Year' in the 2022 WhatUni Student Choice Awards and ranking first in the 'Student Support' category.

Eventually, it transitioned to become the Birmingham College of Food, Tourism, and Creative Studies, reflecting its expanding course offerings. In 2007, it was renamed University College Birmingham, earning independent status from council control in 1993 and gaining recognition as a higher education institution in 2002.

The university's main campuses are situated at Summer Row and Newhall Street, with the Postgraduate Centre located at George Street. Additionally, UCB provides accommodation for students at The Maltings and Cambrian Hall, conveniently located near Broad Street, the city's primary entertainment district. With a student body of over 4,900 in higher education and around 10,300 in further education, UCB has been recognized for its outstanding quality. The university received an 'outstanding' rating from OFSTED in 2009 and holds prestigious accreditations such as Hospitality Assured status. It has also been awarded the Beacon Status, Catey Education and Training Award, Investors in People, Charter Mark, and the Matrix award.

One of the hallmarks of UCB's programs is the emphasis on practical experience. All courses offer opportunities for work placements, with many degree-level courses offering a 48-week paid placement approximately halfway through the program. Students have the flexibility to choose placements in various organizations related to their field of study, both within the UK and internationally.
