About
St. Luke's Campus is a cozy part of the University of Exeter, where you'll find the School of Sport and Health Sciences, the Graduate School of Education, and the Medical School. It's also home to the Children's Health and Exercise Research Centre (CHEREC), which got a special honor, the Queen's Anniversary Prize, for its outstanding work in pediatric physiology. It's a big deal because it's the first time this award was given to research in sports science.
If you're a student at St. Luke's, your voice is heard through the Deputy President of the Students' Guild, currently Marte Billington. The Guild also has an info point at Cross Keys, the campus bar and dining spot, which even has its own cinema!
St. Luke's has a long history, dating back to 1854 when it started as the Exeter Diocesan Training School. Over time, it's grown and developed, surviving a direct hit during World War II. Back then, it was called St. Luke's Training College and was mainly for training schoolmasters. Women were admitted as students in 1966, and in 1978, St. Luke's joined the University of Exeter.
Fun fact: Part of the campus car park was once the site of the Heavitree gallows, where, in the 16th century, three people convicted of witchcraft were hanged. Their remains are believed to still rest beneath the parking lot.
